Unemployed Take to Twitter To Seek Jobs, send over 60 lakh tweets

The unemployed in the country have taken to Twitter to appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to create jobs. Hashtags like #modi_job_do, #मोदी_रोजगार_दो and #Mama_Rojgar_Do are trending on Twitter with #modi_job_do nearly touching 60 lakh tweets.

Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) in its data published yesterdat (February 24, 2021) has pointed out that the unemployment rate in the country is 7 per cent, with the rate in urban areas being 7.3 per cent and in rural 6.8 per cent.

According to the CMIE data, the unemployment rate is the highest in Jammu and Kashmir at 21.9 per cent followed by Tripura at 18.1 per cent and Haryana and Rajasthan taking the third place at 17.7 per cent.

The BJP had come to power at the centre in 2014 by claiming, among other things, that it would create two crore jobs annually. Statistic shows that though the BJP led government is in its second term, it has not come anywhere close to the promises made.

Tall claims of creation of jobs were also made during the recently held elections to the Bihar Legislative Assembly.

While scarping Article 370 of the Constitution, the government had claimed that one of the benefits of scraping that provision of the Constitution would be the creation of employment in the Jammu and Kashmir. It is more than a year, since Article 370 was scrapped, yet there are no signs of creating jobs in the region.

The tweets of the unemployed indicate that the idea is to send at least a crore tweets with these hashtags to draw the attention of the Prime Minister and various departments concerned of the Union Government to the grave problem of unemployment.
