Five die in UP, after drinking insecticide, mistaken for tea

Five persons died after consuming a decoction of an insecticide, mistaken for tea in Nagla Kanhai village, Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

According to Superintendent of Police, Kamlesh Dixit, Rammurthy, made tea for her family comprising her husband Shivanandan (35), his sons Shivang (6) and Divyansh (5) and the lady’s father Ravindra Singh (55). While the tea was being served, her neighbour Sobran (42) came to their house and she too was served the tea.

Rammurthy’s father had come to visit them that morning. When the five of them had the tea, they lost their consciousness and they were taken to two different hospitals.  Ravindra, Shivang and Divyansh were declared brought dead at one hospital, while Shivanandan and Sobran died after admission to another hospital.

On interrogation by the police, it was learnt that Rammurthy mistook an insecticide for tea leaves and used it to make tea. The insecticide was toxic and lead to the death of five persons.
