From abject poverty to study in US, flight of 3 Telangana girls

Three girls from economically backward class belonging to Telangana will now get to study in the United States of America.

The students who studied under the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) will get to study at United States Community Colleges having bagged the Community College Initiate Programme (CCIP) fellowships.

The three successful girls are Preethi, Blossom and Sririsha.

Preethi, a student of the Telangana State Welfare Residential (TSWR) Degree College for Women, Mahendra Hills, has been selected for a course in agriculture at the Sinclair Community College, Ohio. Her parents work as farm labourers.

Blossom, a student of TSWR Degree College, L B Nagar has got an opportunity to study at the Baltimore Community College, while Sririsha will go to Jamestown Community College in New York to pursue a programme in Early Childhood Education. Her parents are also labourers.

The three students cleared several rounds of interviews conducted by the US consulate in India. The girls displayed their intelligence and English communication skills.

In the last six years, 20 students under TSWREIS have made it to the US.
