Farmers did not die for me, ‘arrogant’ Narendra Modi tells Satya Pal Malik

An ‘arrogant’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik, “Did they (the protesting farmers) die for me?”

Malik disclosed this at a public meeting in Dadri in Haryana on Sunday. Malik said that he had called on Modi to discuss the farmers’ protests to demand the withdrawal of the farm laws, by the meeting ended in an argument with Modi.

The Meghalaya Governor said that Modi was arrogant during the meeting and within five minutes of the start of the meeting he started arguing with Malik. “When I told him that 500 of our own (farmers) had died… he said, ‘Did they die for me?’ I told him yes, since you are the king. I ended up having an argument with him. He told me to meet Amit Shah and I did),” the former Bharatiya Janata Party leader said.

Later, speaking to media persons in Dadri, he said, “What more could the PM have said other than what he said… We (farmers) should get decisions done in our favour. We should take their help to get legal guarantee for MSP (Minimum Support Price) instead of doing something that spoils everything.”

He added that there are still some issues pending like the cases against farmers and that the government should withdraw all the cases. Malik has been vocal against the Union Government, especially on the farmers’ issue.

Malik also said, “If the government thinks that this agitation has ended, it has not… The agitation has only been suspended. If injustice or atrocity is committed on farmers, then it will start again. I will be with them (farmers) whatever the situation.”
