Assam govt. doles out money to tea workers, as elections approach

Assam Government has transferred Rs 3000 each to the bank accounts of 7.46,667 tea works under the Cha  Bagichhar Dhan Puraskar Mela. This was done on Saturday.
The tea workers have received two instalments of RS 2,500 each, with the government spending Rs 584 crore on doling out the money to the tea workers.
It is to be noted that elections to the state assembly are round the corner and several parties have come together to form an ant-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance in the state.
“Assam tea has a brand value and the world remembers it. We all have tea waking up in the morning but your children eat stale rice. This situation has to change. The children of the workers, who provide tea to the world, must have access to fresh food, not stale food,” Sitharaman said, who was present at a rally in Gauhati, organised by the state government for the distribution of funds to the tea workers.
