Baghel helps release of tribals framed in false cases during BJP rule

Over 400 tribals, who were falsely framed in fake Naxalite cases in Chhatisgarh have been acquitted by courts, following instructions from Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

According to Superintendent of Police Sunil Sharma, over 671 “innocent tribals” were imprisoned in 110 Naxalite cases in Sukma district of the state.

Baghel had issued instructions for the transfer of police officers who were posted for over two and half years at same police stations in the district. This was done to improve the law and order situation in the state and to give justice to the tribals, who were being victimised. Following the instructions 153 police personnel in the district have been transferred.

Sharma announced that 413 tribals were released from prisons, after 60 court cases involving them were cleared. He expects the release of another 258 tribals in December, after another 50 cases are cleared. A special team has been formed to help clear the cases.

All these tribals were taken into custody during the rule of the previous Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in the state. The Congress, which is now in power, had promised in its election manifesto that innocent tribals, languishing in jails with false cases against them, would be released. This is the first time that the tribals are getting justice at the hands of the government.
