Bihar police tie hands of women behind their backs for hours

The police have grossly violated human rights in Gaya.

Tweeter Suraj Kumar Bauddh brought to the notice of Muzzled Voices, a report in the Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar, which stated that a police party visited Adhatpur village of Belaganj Block in Gaya district, where local people were opposing the sand extraction from Morahar river.

The protestors refused to leave when the police tried to disperse them, following which the police fired tear gas shells and resorted to a lathi-charge, yet the protestors did not budge. The report said that after that the police then arrested six women, including a 13-year-old and four men.

The police tied the hands of all those arrested, behind their backs and their feet were tied too. They made to sit that way for several hours, surrounded by armed police personnel.  The women, men and child, were then dumped in a police vehicle and taken to a COVID quarantine centre. Ironically, the district has a woman superintendent of police, according to the report.

A case has been registered against the ten, on the complaint of a mining inspector.
