BJP leader arrested for flogging Dalit in UP

A local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader has been arrested, along with two others, for flogging a Dalit in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday.

According to a First Information Report (FIR) filed against the BJP leader Radheshyam Mishra, Saroj alias Renu Vajpai and Rakesh Tiwari, the three suspected that Rajesh Kumar, a local Dalit, had stolen a toilet seat. They then tied Kumar to an electric pole, repeatedly flogged, truncated and his face forcefully coloured with black by the accused, which took place on Wednesday in Pure Hind Singh village, came forward after its video was all over social media.

Additional Superintendent of police Ashok Kumar stated before the media that sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act have been applied to the three accused.
