Daughter commits suicide, after family beats to death boyfriend in an inter-faith love affair

A 19-year-old college student committed suicide, after her family members beat her boyfriend to death in Rampur Maniharan of Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

The family of Tannu Saini, who was doing her BSc, did not approve of her love for her classmate Zia-ur-Rahman. When Tannu, refused to break her relationship with Zia, her family members asked Zia to come over to their place on Tuesday. It is alleged that when he reached Tannu’s place, her family members beat him up.

On learning about the incident, the police arrived at Tannu’s place and helped Zia’s family to take him to the hospital. Zia died at the hospital, the next day, during treatment.

Zia’s father, Ayub Ahmad, who runs a grocery shop, told journalists, “The girl’s family called my son to their house on Tuesday evening. They brutally thrashed him and left him outside the house. After someone informed us about the matter, we rushed to the spot and saw him lying on the ground. He was badly injured. We took him to a local hospital, from where he was referred to a higher medical centre in Dehradun, where he died on Wednesday morning.”

Tension spread in the area, after the local people learnt about Zia’s death. Police force was deployed in the area to avoid communal tensions and in order to maintain peace.

On learning about Zia’s demise, Tannu hanged herself to death in her house.
