Boxer Lovlina Borgohain is now Assam Police DSP
India’s Olympian boxer Lovlina Borgohain has been appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police in Assam Police, in appreciation of her achievements in boxing.
Borgohain won a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the women's welterweight event, to become third Indian boxer to win a medal at the Olympics.
She also won bronze medals at the 2018 and 2019 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships. She won the gold medal at India 1st Open International Boxing Tournament held in New Delhi, but had to settle for a silver medal the next India Open International Boxing Tournament held in Guwahati.
She is the recipient of the Arjuna Award for her achievements in sports.
In a tweet, Borgohain has thanked Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswas for giving her an opportunity to serve in Assam Police and has added that her main focus “will be to work hard in sports and bring gold medal for our country in the Paris Olympics 2024”.
