Chhatisgarh CM’s political morality; does not spare father
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has set a great example of political morality, by getting his father arrested on charges of promoting disharmony, enmity and hatred among communities.
The Chief Minister’s father, Nand Kumar Baghel had recently made an appeal to boycott Brahmins and described them as foreigners.
A video of Baghel Senior’s speech made the rounds in the social media and Sarv Brahmin Samaj lodged a complaint against him in Raipur, under Section 153A and 505A of Indian Penal Code.
The Chief Minister took a stand that nobody is above the law and did not stop the police from arresting his father. He had told reporters two days ago, "Nobody is above the law before my government, even if he is the Chief Minister's 86-year-old father. As Chief Minister, I have the responsibility to maintain harmony among different communities. If he made a remark against a community, I am sorry. Legal action will be taken." Following this, he did take action today and his father was arrested.
On being produced in the court, Nand Kumar Baghel’s lawyer did not seek bail for him and the accused was sent to 15 days custody. He will have to appear before the court on September 21.
