Colonel and son beaten-up for asking GST bill

A father-son duo, the father being an army colonel, were allegedly flogged for asking GST bill at a firecracker shop after their purchase.
The incident where an army colonel and his son, Ishan Singh were allegedly beaten up and thrashed with iron rods by 15-20 men on orders of a shop owner, Vimal Singhania for demanding a GST bill after purchasing firecrackers on Diwali from Singhania’s shop occurred on October 24 at Ranchi, Jharkhand.
Ishan later filed a complaint about the incident at Gonda police station. He said that his father is currently posted to the Ganga Nagar Rajasthan branch and he had come home for a few days to celebrate Diwali with the family.
Ishan mentioned that Singhania told the duo that no GST bill is given to customers on purchasing firecrackers. “When we tried to discuss the matter with the shop owner, people present in the shop began hitting us. We were hit with an iron rod. Both of us sustained injuries in this attack”, Ishan said in his complaint.
Colonel Singh told reporters, “It is very sad that we were thrashed just for asking for a GST bill.” He also added saying that Vimal’s brother Kamal Singhania apologized on behalf of his brother and sent sweets and crackers to the colonel’s house so that he takes back the case.
Meanwhile, a First Information Report (FIR) has also been filed against the colonel and his son under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act by one of the employees, Raju Mondla, working at Vimal’s shop stating that the duo passed casteist comments when they were refused to be given a discount which later led to a fight.
