CPI(M) observes Black Day in UP
Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] observed Black Day in Uttar Pradesh protesting against “black agricultural laws and anti-labour laws” on Wednesday.
A CPI(M) State Secretariat press statement said that black flags were hoisted at homes and black bands were tied on the forearms by members of the Mazdoor Kisan Parishad (MKP) in support of farmers and labour organisations.
MKP members, including the party state secretary, protested at the MKP state office premises in Lucknow, amidst a huge deployment of police. “Police guarded the offices and leaders of leftist parties and farmers' organisations across the state,” the State Secretariat said.
The state claimed that BJP's Yogi government is scared of the opposition by the public protesting in a big way.
The party alleged that democratic rights were being trampled in the state and police were being deployed at the offices of political parties and the homes of the leaders of the leftist parties and farmer organisations. It condemned the State action, which it described as fierce anti-democracy attitude of the Yogi government.
The party has demanded that the Modi government should immediately talk to the farmers and accept their demands so that the farmers can end their six-month long protest and return to their villages and farms and engage in food production for the country.
