Dalit children thrashed for touching water utensils in MP

Two Dalit children were beaten up by upper caste members for touching their water containers, in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh.

According to a report published in Hindustan Times the children of Manohar Ahirwar had gone to buy biscuits from Devi Singh Lodhi’s shop and while doing so, inadvertently touched some utensils containing water, much to the annoyance of Lodhi. Ahriwar’s son was then beaten up by the shop owner, who later went to Ahriwar’s residence, with a group of people and beat him, his son and daughter, who had gone to the shop and his elderly parents.

Ahriwar then lodged complaint with the Tendukheda police, against eight persons on charges of rioting, causing hurt criminal intimidation and under the Prevention of Atrocities against Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes Act.
