Dalit forced to drink urine: Karnataka SI suspended

Karnataka Sub-inspector (SI) of police Arjun Honakere has been suspended on charges of making a Dalit youth to drink urine.

K L Punith (22), had filed a first information report (FIR) on Saturday that SI Honakere had made him drink urine, while he was in the police lockup in Gonibeedu police station, nearly two weeks ago.

Honakere has been booked under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Schedule Castes/Scheduled Tribes PRevention of Atrocities Amendment ACt.

The Inspector General of Police (Western Range) suspended Honakere and has instituted a probe in the matter. The probe has been handed over to the Crime Investigation Department (CID), with Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police Akshay Hakay Machhindra will head the probe
