Gaya Dalit made to lick spit, drink urine

Atrocities against Dalits continue, this time it was witnessed in Gaya, where a Dalit youth was forced to lick spit of several people in the panchayat office.

The incident came to light through a video circulating on social media. The video shows the man licking the spit from the floor. The video claimed that the man had eloped with a woman and this was opposed by the girl’s family and members of the girl’s community, in Wazirganj, of Gaya district in Bihar.

The girl’s family apprehended the man and took him to the village panchayat. Given his Dalit status, many in the panchayat office spat on the floor and made him lick it. He was also forced to drink urine.

When the video went viral, the Gaya police went into action and a first information report was filed on the orders of Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police Aditya Kumar. The police have arrested six persons in connection with the incident and more arrests are expected.
