Duo issue apology after denying Dalits entry to temple

After denying entry to a Dalit family, two upper-caste Hindus issued an apology after the police intervention. A complaint was registered earlier in Coimbatore’s Thudiyalur police station by R Kamatchi of NGGO Colony alleging caste discrimination.

The woman stated that she was not allowed to enter the temple in Balaji Nagar along with her son and his family on January 25. As per the complaint, she was refused entry by a man and woman because she was a Dalit. Kamatchi informed that her family had to offer prayer while standing outside the temple.

“The temple didn’t have a proper building and all devotees offered prayers standing in the open space,” she said while adding that the situation was not the same earlier.

However, Superintendent of Police (SP) Arya Arularasu has denied any caste angle to the issue stating that there was no caste discrimination. He said that the family was not allowed to enter the temple by villagers as they didn’t belong to the locality. According to Express News Service, the upper caste Hindus agreed to tender an apology to the Dalit family after police intervention on Friday.
