DMK MP Ramesh, accused of murder, to remain in custody till November 22

Dravida Munnetra Kazagham (DMK) Member of Parliament (MP) T R V S Ramesh will continue to be in custody as an accused in a worker’s murder case in Tamil Nadu.

Govindarasu, a 60-year-old worker in a cashew nut packaging factory in Panikankuppam, Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on September 19. Govindarasu’s son Senthilvel lodged a complaint with the police, suspecting that his father was murdered.

The post-mortem report of Govindarasu confirmed the murder. After investigation the Crime Branch of Criminal Investigation Department filed murder charges against six persons, including the factory owner and MP Ramesh. Five of the accused were arrested immediately and Ramesh surrendered to the court in Panruti, two days later. The court remanded him to police custody and his bail application was initially rejected on October 23 and again on November 9. Chief Judicial Magistrate of Cuddalore Court N Prabhakar extended the remand to November 22.
