Don’t fall for election promises, Mayawati cautions UP voters

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has cautioned the voters in Uttar Pradesh, against election promises being made by different political parties ahead of the 2002 assembly polls.

Mayawati tweeted yesterday that promises are being made by various political parties, especially Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress, to woo the voters. She said that the people of the state are being mislead and that the promises are forgotten after the parties making such promises come to power. “This is the history of these parties and people should be cautious,” she added.

She felt that instead of making promises BJP and SP should have carried out the work, while in power. She appealed to the voters to ponder why the Congress did not give 40 per cent elections tickets to women in other states or two-wheelers to women in states where it is in power.

Incidentally, Mayawati’s party has announced that it will not have an election manifesto for the legislative assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh to be held next year. The party has decided to approach the voters with a report of the work done by the party, while in power in the state. The party was in power in Uttar Pradesh in 1995, 1997, 2002 and 2007.
