Gujarat temple out of bounds for Dalit

Dalit are still being banned from entering temples in many parts of the country, the latest being in Gujarat.

A notice was displayed at the Kal Bhairav Temple in Pikhor village of Maliya Hati taluka of Junagadh district in Gujarat banning the entire of Harijana and the Meghwal community into the temple as well as the temple premises. The notice was displayed in the name of the Pikhor village panchayat.

The notice announced that the from January 12, 2022, Harijan and Meghwal community members will not be allowed to enter the temple or its premises.

When the poster went viral on the social media, members of the Dalit community, reported the matter to the local police. Senior police officers reached the temple, removed the notice and ensure that the Dalit could enter the temple.

Local people said they would watch the situation on January 12, 2022.
