28 tonnes of spurious fertiliser seized in MP
Officials of Madhya Pradesh Agriculture Department have seized 28 tonnes of spurious fertiliser from Ajay Khad Bhandar, a fertiliser warehouse, located in Sapaniya village in Garoth in Mandaur district of the state. The officials were assisted by local police in carrying out the raid.
The officials had been tipped-off about the storage and sale of spurious fertilisers. The raiding team was headed by Kalam Singh Vaskle along with other officials of the agriculture department and Tehsildar Savita Rathore. The officials asked the staff at the warehouse for the documents pertaining to the purchase of the fertilisers in the warehouse, but they failed to provide the documents, as a result of which the material in the warehouse was seized.
There have been complaints of acute fertiliser shortage in several states in the country, leading to sale of fertilisers in the black, as well as sale of spurious fertilisers. Apart from the seizure of 28 tonnes of spurious fertilisers, the officials seized unaccounted bags of branded fertilisers.
Samples of the seized material have been sent to a testing laboratory, as a part of the investigation.
The officials and the police are on the lookout for the owners of the warehouse and those responsible for the manufacture and sale of the spurious fertiliser.
