Kannnur varsity saffronisation plan boomerangs

The decision of the Kannur University to include writings of rightwing writers like MS Golwalkar and V D Savarkar, along with that of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya and Balraj Madhok, was received by protests from students’ organisation.

Students’ organisations termed it as saffronisation of higher education, with the inclusion of writings of ideologues of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

The university had decided to include these writings in the syllabus for the MA Governance and Political Science course will not be taught in the third semester.

The portions will be put on hold by the university, at least for the time-being. An expert committee appointed to evaluate the syllabus. The committee comprising Dr J Prabhash, retired Kerala University professor, and Dr K S Pavithran, retired Calicut University professor, is believed to have expressed reservations over the inclusion of these writings in the syllabus.
