Karnataka women confront Hindutva hooligans, as nation remains silent

Even as the nation is silent over the rising hooliganism in various parts of the country, in the name of Hindutva, women of a Dalit family in Tumakuru in Karnataka, raised their voice against Hindutva goons.

According to a report in The Minute News by Prajwal Bhat, the Hindutva activists barged into the house of the women and tried to prevent them from celebrating Christmas. Bhat has tweeted a video of the women opposing the celebration of Christmas. The report said that the police have not registered a case, though the women and the Hindutva activists made charges against each other in front of the police, who had reached the spot. The police claim is that since there was no violence, no cases have been registered.

The report stated that the Ramu Bajarangi, a Bajrang Dal leader from Kunigal taluka said that a gram panchayat member in the village had informed him that the family of Ramchandra in the village was saying Christian prayers, following which Bajarangi mobilised members of the organisation and barged into Ramchandra’s house.

They questioned the family on their saying of Christian prayers and were told by the family members that they are Christians by faith.

The Bajrang Dal goons then asked the women why they were not wearing sindur and thaali (mangalsutra), worn by Hindu women. It was then that the women fought back verbally and asked the men, what right they had to question the women.

The men then alleged that the family had converted to Christianity to which the women said that they are Hindus, but practice Christianity. The annoyed women asked the Bajrang Dal volunteers what proof they had that there were conversions to Christianity.

Bajrang Dal and several other Hindutva organisations have been attacking Christians and their religious places, accusing them of conversions. There are several such cases of attacks in Karnataka.
