Kisan leaders held, released in Karnal

Mahendra Singh Tikait and Yogendra Yadav are among the farmers’ leaders arrested by the Karnal police and released soon after, according to Yadav, who tweeted the information.

Yadav said that the leaders were picked up and put in buses by the police, when the leaders’ talks with the administration, demanding action against Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ayush Sinha, who is said to have given orders to the police to break the skulls of farmers, to prevent them from marching into the town on August 28, in support of their demand that the three farm laws introduced by the Centre, be withdrawn.

Another tweet by Yadav stated that the arrested leaders were released shortly after they were picked and the leaders have started marching towards the mini-secretariat.

Lakhs of farmers have gathered in Karnal, even as hundreds of police and para-military forces have been brought in to keep the farmers at bay. The farmers ae marching on the streets peacefully.

The farmers’ leaders said that the authorities want a month to probe the alleged orders by Sinha to break the farmers’ skulls, while the leaders want immediate action against Sinha.
