Digital equipment to SC and ST students from Kerala government

The Kerala Government has decided to provide digital equipment required for online classes to students belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), K Radhakrishnan, Minister for Welfare of ST and SC told the state assembly today.

According to him the digital equipment would include laptops and funds for this would be made available from local self-government bodies. He added that instructions have been sent to the local bodies to utilise the grant, provided by the government for SC/ST welfare, for the provision of the digital equipment to students of these sections of the society.

It was also announced in the assembly that the number of students’ hostels would be increased in the state, from the present 105. The government also plans to provide support to students belonging to the SC/ST community, who wish to pursue higher studies abroad.

Discussions are on to increase the age limit for SC/ST students for admission to PhD in the state.
