Lata Mangeshkar’s immortal voice

Music legend Lata Mangeshkar is no more. She took her last at 8.12 am at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. She was 92.

She was admitted to the hospital two days ago and put on the ventilator. She had recovered from COVID last year and was later diagonised with pneumonia.

She started her musical carrier at the age of 13 for a Marathi film. Her father Pandit Dinanath Mangeshkar was a singer and a Marathi sangeet natak artiste.

In 1974, the Guinness of Records listed her as the an artiste having sung most recorded songs in the world.

She has sung songs in over 40 languages.

Several awards have been conferred on her over the years, prominent being Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, Dadasaheh Phalke Award, Maharashtra Bhushan and Legion of Honour.

Her siblings Asha Bhosale, Hridyanath Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar are also singers.

A national mourning for two days has been announced by the Union Government.

 Tributes to the great singer are pouring from all over the country and abroad.
