Lathis and broken skulls, Bihar Govt’s gift to youth demanding jobs
The Bihar government rewarded students and youth demanding education and employment, with lathis, injuring scores of them.
The rally to demand education and employment was organised by All India Students’ Association, the student wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) {CPI(ML)}. The march by the students and youth started from Gandhi Maidan, with a plan to ‘gherao’ the Bihar Legislative Assembly, which is in session. According to eyewitnesses, the peaceful protest was stopped by the police with the use of force.
When the protestors resisted the police attempt to stop them, which lead to a lathi charge by the police, who also fired tear gas shells and water cannons to disperse those demanding education and employment. The protesters were also demanding that the Nitish Kumar government in the state should implement the assembly election promise to create 19 lakh jobs in the state.
After the lathi charge scores of youth were seen with injuries on their heads, limbs, shoulders and backs. They were later taken to the government hospital for treatment.
CPI(ML) sources said that the police also manhandled the party’s three legislators, Sandeep Saurav, Manoj Manzil and Ajit Kushwaha, as well as party leader Kumar Perwej.
