UP to quarantine returning labourers, not Kumbh participants

Migrant workers returning to Uttar Pradesh from different parts of the country will be quarantined for 14 days to prevent the spread of COVID 19, according to the State Government. No such decision has been taken in case of those returning from the Kumbh Mela.

Thousands of people are returning to Uttar Pradesh primarily from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi, due to the rise in the cases of COVID 19 in these states.

The migrant labourers will have to undergo the RT-PCR test, to check if they are infected by the corona virus. Those found positive will be further isolated at the quarantine centres.

The migrants will then be sent to their respective places by state transport buses at the government’s expense, after the 14-day quarantine.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to prepare a list of migrant labourers, who would be eligible to a sustenance allowance of Rs 1000. A similar amount was paid last year migrant workers and marginalised persons.
