Mosques, Muslim homes attacked in Tripura

Hindu fanatics have attacked mosques, houses and commercial establishments in various parts of Tripura, in retaliation of the attack on Hindu temple in Bangladesh.

At least six mosques are said to have been damaged by the communal elements.

According to civil rights activists, there have been protests by Hindutva organisations like Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Bajrang Dal and Hindu Jagram Manch in Tripura, over the attack on the Hindu temple in Bangladesh. The protestors in Tripura are said to have been armed with swords and carried saffron flags, even as they shouted anti-Muslim slogans.

Some of these protestors damaged mosques, homes of Muslims and their commercial establishments. These attacks were carried out over Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Even the house of a Muslim lawyer was attacked by the miscreants.

Prohibitory orders have been imposed in the affected areas.
