BJP plans new censorship in MP

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra has stated that filmmakers will have to get approval of their script from the administration before shooting in the state.

He said yesterday that filmmakers will have to show the script of their shoot, to the state administration, while seeking permission to shoot. This is being done to check if the content would hurt religious sentiments. The announcement comes in the light of the attacks by Bajrang Dal activists on the sets of Prakash Jha’s set of his upcoming web series Ashram 3. They vandalised the set and threw ink on Jha. Bajrang Dal claimed that the web series contained obscene scenes and hurt Hindu sentiments.

The activists are said to have beaten up some crew members of the web series shoot and damaged cars and vanity vans. Bajrang Dal also opposed the name of the series and wants it changed. Mishra said he endorses the demand.

Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Congress leader Digvijay Singh condemned the attack on Prakash Jha and said that Jha being a renowned filmmaker and police protection should have been provided to him. He added that Bajrang Dal has become an organisation of goons and called upon the state Director General of Police to take strong action in the matter.
