Kerala government’s dressing down to college managements on dress code for teachers

The Kerala Government has warned college managements in the state that they cannot impose a dress code on teachers.

Teachers of several educational institutes in the state had complained to the government about institute managements insisting on a dress code for teachers.

Higher Education Minister R Bindu told mediapersons yesterday that such diktats cannot be tolerated in a civilised society. “All employees of educational institutions in the State are free to wear outfits of their choice and comfort,” according to the minister.

An order debarring the managements from imposing a dress code on teachers was issued yesterday by the government. No rule required women teachers to wear saris to their workplace, the order stated.
