Owaisi demands full parliamentary demand on Sino-India ties and border issues

Asaduddun Owaisi, Member of Parliament and President of All India Majis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, has demanded a full parliamentary debate on Sino-India ties and the state of affairs on the border.

His demand comes in the light of the construction of a village in Arunachal Pradesh by the Chinese. The Bharatiya Janata Party led Union Government has been mum on the issue, though a few months earlier the government had categorically stated that the Chinese have not occupied our land. The party spokespersons have been denying the construction of the village on Indian territory by the Chinese, however, Pentagon, the United States of America defence headquarters has confirmed the construction of the village.

Owaisi has also sought that an all-party delegation of MPs should be taken to all the contentious border areas as well. This will allow the parliamentarians to reassert our sovereignty and keep the public informed If required, a secret sitting of the House can be conducted under Lok Sabha rule 248.

Owaisi said in a tweet tonight, “Modi’s strategy of silence, denial and obfuscation on China is self-defeating. It is sad this government is weakening us internally by polarising  and  dividing Indians. This divisiveness domestically has come at the cost of our relations in the neighbourhood where China has been making gains.”

According to Owaisi, this sends a message of weakness to Beijing. “To our allies, it conveys our inability to confront the truth. Before 2014, Modi used to say that the problem is not on the borders, the problem is in Delhi. This is truer than it ever was before,” he added.

Owaisi said that as the Chief Minister (of Gujarat) Modi used to talk big about national security, but now Prime Minister, Modi doesn’t even utter China’s name.

He questioned Modi’s hesitation in naming China.
