UP’s way of respecting women: police mercilessly beat them to break their bones
Police call it use of mild force
Women protesting against the digging of the foundation near a statute of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, which was blackened by miscreants, were mercilessly beaten up by male police personnel in Ambedkarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh (UP) on Sunday.
A video of the police assault on the women, with at least one woman falling on the ground, following severe injury due to the baton blows from the police, has gone viral on the social media.
Bhim Army Chief Chandra Shekhar Aazad has also tweeted the video and added, “Yogi's police brutally lathi-charged the women protesting against the excavation of the foundation near the statue of Baba Saheb in Ambedkar Nagar. On one hand, Modi ji talks about women's honor and on the other hand, the BJP government of UP respects women by beating them with sticks. The truth of words and deeds is in front.”
Netizens have condemned the police brutality and some of them have sought a probe into the police action.
The UP police tweeted a statement blaming ‘miscreants’ creating trouble. The police claimed that the women attacked civic works trying to mend the area near the statute and the police used ‘mild force’ to disperse them.
