BJP leaders join protest against Haj House construction in Delhi

Several residents of Delhi protested under the banners of Hindu Shakti Sangathan and Sampoorna Dehat in Dwarka against the proposed construction of Haj House in the area. Several local leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) play a prominent role in the protest held on Friday.

Taking an obvious communal stand, The All Dwarka Residents’ Federation has written to Delhi Lt-Governor Anil Baijal, who is also chairperson of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), seeking the cancellation of the allotment of land for the construction of Haj House.

The organisation’s memorandum said, “There is a strong apprehension that brotherhood, harmony and peace in the society, apart from law and order, will be disturbed if the said Haj House is allowed to be constructed in Dwarka and, furthermore, there will be every possibility of riots, migration of Hindus, and repetition of situation like Shaheen Bagh, Jafrabad and Kashmir.”

Some local villagers also joined the protest to oppose the use of ‘public money’ for the construction of Haj House.

The foundation stone of the Haj House was laid in 2008, by then Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Protesters said that they had protested against it back then as well. The project lay in cold storage for a long time and in 2018 the Delhi government allocated Rs 94 crore for the construction of Haj House.
