Another UP Minister quits, blames government for ignoring Dalit and OBC

Yet another minister has quit the Uttar Pradesh cabinet. This time it is Dharam Singh Saini, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Ayush, Food Security and Drug Administration.

He is the second minister to quit this week. Earlier, Swami Prasad Maurya resigned from the cabinet.

This morning Saini, turned back his security and also vacated the official residence, kicking off speculation that he would quit. A few hours later Saini sent in his resignation.

In his resignation written to the State Governor, Saini said that the aspirations of the Dalit, the underprivilege farmers, educated unemployed, small and medium business community, who had voted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to power in a big way, have not been fulfilled. He attributed his resignation to the failure of the government to live up to the aspirations of the people.

Maurya had taken a similar stand, while resigning from the Adityanath government and later quitting the party too. Close on the heels of Maurya’s resignation, party legislators Brajesh Prajapati, Roshan Lal Varma, Bhagwati Sagar, Mukesh Verma and Vinay Shakya resigned from the BJP.

Other Backward Class (OBC) Dara Singh Chauhan also resigned from the Adityanath cabinet on Wednesday. He stated while resigning that for the last five years, he had worked for the welfare of the Dalit and OBC with dedication, but the government failed to give justice and employment to members of these communities.
