Bihar sarpanch allegedly involved in honour killing
A sarpanch from Bihar allegedly killed her daughter and their driver, with whom, the daughter was suspected to have an affair.
According to the police, Anita Devi, the sarpanch of Ayodhya Bari village, suspected that her daughter Rupam Kumari was in love with her driver Ramnunu Paswan, hence sacked Paswan. However, Paswan continued to visit her place and meet Rupam Kumari.
Anita Devi, allegedly called Paswan to her house, on the pretext of offloading some goods on Monday and on his arrival, he was beaten to death by her cronies.
The police found the bodies of Rupam and Paswan on the railway tracks three kilometres from Begusarai railway station.
On learning about the couple’s death, some villagers protested and sought the arrest of Anita Devi and her husband. On seeing the protest Anita and her husband surrendered to the police. However, Rupam’s parents told the police that they have nothing to do with Rupam and Paswan’s death. Anita Devi told the police, “My daughter and the man, who was our driver, were having a love affair for a long time. When we came to know about it, we sacked him from the job. Later, both of them entered into a suicide pact and killed themselves.”
The police suspect this to be a case of honour killing. The police are investigating how the couple died.
