Delegate war against COVID19 to Gadkari: Swamy

Amid the increasing number of deaths due to shortage of oxygen in the hospitals, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday expressed his concerns over the handling of the COVID 19 pandemic by the Narendra Modi government.

He opined that Nitin Gadkari should be the frontman in the war against coronavirus pandemic. Gadkari is a senior BJP leader and the Minister for Road Transport and Highways in the Central Cabinet.

“Relying on PMO is useless,” Swamy said in his tweet while adding that India could face another wave of COVID 19 that targets children. He appealed to the government to take strict measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

“India will survive Coronavirus Pandemic as it did Islamic invaders and British Imperialists. We could face one more wave that targets children unless strict precautions now are taken. Modi should therefore delegate the conduct of this war to Gadkari. Relying on PMO is useless (sic),” Swamy tweeted.

Meanwhile, Swamy remains cautious to name the Prime Minister directly amid the health emergency. In one of his tweets Swamy on said, “PMO is a department not the Prime Minister himself.”

The opposition parties including Congress have been demanding the resignation of Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan over the mismanagement of the COVID 19 pandemic. It said that the health minister has failed to deliver. However, Swamy came to Vardhan’s defence and said that he has not been allowed the liberty to make decisions.

“Harsh Vardhan has not been allowed free hand. But he is too polite to assert his authority. With Gadkari he will bloom (sic),” Swamy said.

India has become the global epicenter of the COVID 19 pandemic, reporting a record-breaking number of cases and deaths each day. As of May 4, India has reported at least 20,282,800 covid-19 cases and 2,22,408 deaths.
