Finger prints of women farm labourers to not match biometrics, Supriya Sule states in Lok Sabha; seeks solution

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha Supriya Sule today appealed to the government to work out a method for verification of identity of women working in the fields as farm labourers, whose finger prints often do not match with the official records.

Raising the matter in the Lok Sabha, Sule said that since a large number of women in the country work in the fields as labourers and do manual work, the skin of their fingers gets damaged and as a result their finger prints do not match the official record during biometric checks.

The mismatch deprives them of the food grains being supplied through the joint efforts of the Centre and the State government. Sule said that even elderly women face the problem. While putting for the problems of these women, Sule appreciated the distribution of rations by the Centre and said that it was also effective in Maharashtra.

Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal said that the issue of biometrics does not come under his ministry, but assured Sule that he would speak to the Minister concerned and request him to look into the matter to resolve the problem.
