Afghan Taliban, you have huge competition from India
The media is now flooded with news about the atrocities and crimes against women being committed by the Taliban after it came to power in Afghanistan.
Most television channels in India have been devoting their debates to these incidents and spokespersons of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) or supporters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) being most critical of the Taliban. Through these debates an opinion is sought to be created that this is the mindset of Islamists.
A look at even a few incidents of crime and violence in the country shows that people and the police in India are no better than the members of the Taliban in Afghanistan. There are numerous cases of violence against women and even men been beaten up mercilessly over some small disputes. We have compiled very few of these incidents from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. It has to be noted that the culprits involved in these crimes are Hindus and both the states are ruled by the BJP.
A report caried by City Andolan News August 15, 2021 states that three men, who opposed the illegal construction by the village chief in Kasgunj district of Uttar Pradesh (UP), were mercilessly beaten up, after their limbs were tied and they were thus tied together.
The three are grievously injured and admitted to the hospital.
On the same day, Live Hindustan reported that the family members of a man, who had outraged the modesty of a woman, doused the woman with kerosene and set her on fire in Mahoba of UP. The woman was admitted to the hospital. The lady died two days later.
Live Hindustan reported on August 19, 2021 that a lady was raped by four men, including the son of the village chief, in Badaut of UP.
News 18 Hindi carried a report on August 16, 2021 a man beat his wife in Hardoi district of UP, demanding dowry. He dragged her to the road, while assaulting her and then sat on her, as he continued to beat her. Later he hung her, but her relatives, on learning about the assault, reached the place and took her to the hospital, where she died during treatment.
Amar Ujala reported On August 5, 2021 the police beat up a lady in Amoghar village in Alinagar Police Station’s jurisdiction of Chandauli district of UP. The report quoted the lady’s husband as saying that though women police personnel were present, the male police personnel abused and severely beat her.
Jagran reported on June 24, 2021 that goons in Firozepur village of Bulandshar, UP beat up a lady as they were opposed to the construction of a nallah, a project supported by the lady. The lady was badly beaten up and was also threatened with death by the goons.
The social media had posts with photographs of a police constable of Kanpur sitting on a lady in the middle of the road and assaulting her on July 19, 2021.
Navjivan India carried a report on August 9, 2021 that a 27-year-old woman filed a complaint with the Rajabpur police station of Amroha district of UP, of gang rape, forced abortion and cruelty among others, against her in-laws. She said in her complaint that her in-laws were demanding a dowry of Rs 5 lakh and a luxury car, from her parents.
On June 28, a lady residing in Gwalior was made to drink acid by her husband and in-laws as she refused to get dowry from her parents.
In the same city, a man beat up his lady partner and slit her private parts with a blade on July 11, 2021, because she returned late from a marriage in her family.
According to a report from Alirajpur of Madhya Pradesh, on News 18 on July 3, 2021, a girl was hung upside down from a tree and beaten by her father and her brothers. They were upset that she had gone to the residence of her maternal uncle, without informing them.
