Teacher arrested for beating and kicking SC student in TN

A teacher of a government school in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu has been booked and arrested under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, after a video showing him beating up a school boy went viral on the social media.

The video shows the hefty teacher holding the boy by his hair and kicking, as well as beating the boy with a cane, while the boy was on his knees.

According to sources, the boy was beaten by the teacher, because he missed class the previous day. The student is studying in class 12 and belongs to the Scheduled Caste. One of his classmates, shot him being beaten by the teacher and posted the video on the social media. The video was brought to the notice of the District Collector K Balasubramaniam, who ordered the police to arrest the teacher and has instituted a probe in the incident.

Since the student belongs to the Scheduled Caste, a case has also been registered under the Scheduled Castses and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
