Teacher, who beat SC student, suspended

The school teacher, who had kicked and beaten a Scheduled Caste student in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu and was arrested, has now been suspended.

The teacher, identified as Subramanian, of the Government Nandanar Boys Higher Secondary School in Chidambaram of Cuddalore district, mercilessly thrashed and kicked a class 12 student, because he did not turn up at the school the previous day.

Subramanian is a physics teacher and some of his students skipped the class to avoid appearing for the daily tests, that he gives. It is now learnt that he beat other students too, but, one of the classmate, shot a video on his cell phone, of one of the students being kicked and beaten. The video showing the student being pulled by his hair and kicked, went viral on the social media, waking up the local authorities. On the orders of the District Collector, a case was filed against Subramanian under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He was arrested and remanded to judicial custody on Thursday.

Following this, the Adi-dravidar Welfare Department and the Head Master of the school, jointly served a suspension order on the teacher.
