Two men stripped, whipped and later arrested on suspicion of selling beef

A violent mob, claiming to be vigilant against beef sale, stripped two men, thrashed and whipped, and paraded semi-naked in the streets of Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh on a supposition of selling beef. The two men were later arrested by the police, though there is still no certainty if they were selling beef.

A video showing the two men being beaten and whipped mercilessly and dragged through the streets, went viral on social media.

The men were paraded by dragging the two-wheeler, they were spotted riding earlier, in the streets of Chakkarbhatha locality while a large number of people followed them and were recording videos of the incident.

One, Sumit Nayak alleged that the two men, Narsingh Das (50) and Ramnivas Mehar (52), were riding a two-wheeler loaded with a white sack containing beef.

On the basis of the complaint, the Chakkarbhatha police arrested the accused and recovered almost around 33 kg of flesh, suspected to be beef, which was in their possession.

The police are awaiting analytical report from the veterinarian, to ascertain whether the flesh in beef or not.
