Two adult women free to stay together

Madhya Pradesh High Court ruled on Friday that it cannot stop two women wanting to stay together. This was stated by the court, while hearing a custody plea filed by the father of an 18-year-old girl who had fled home with a 22-year-old woman.

The two women in question, grew up together, since childhood and studied together too. They soon became emotionally attached to each other and eloped, to stay together.

On learning that the two have fled, the father of the younger lady moved the Madhya Pradesh High Court, seeking his daughter's custody.

The father told the court that he had tried to persuade his daughter to stay with the family instead of with her female friend but she did not agree.

The high court accepted the petition and issued a notice to the girl, directing her to appear before it. However, when the girl appeared before the court, she was given an hour to decide. She told the court that she wished to stay with her friend.

On this, the court stated that the girl is an adult, adding, "You can take the decisions of your life on your own."
