Rescue operations on in Uttarakhand

The Indian Army has joined the operations, along with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), to rescue those trapped under the debris in Chamoli district of Uttarkhand,, after a glacier broke off.

The glacier broke around 11 am today, causing flooding and causing damage to houses and the NTPC and Rishiganga power projects.

The Uttarakhand government has expressed fears that over 100 people are dead and rescue operations are on to save those trapped in different places.

Sixteen persons, trapped in a tunnel, have been rescued so far.
