Husband films wife’s suicide in Kanpur

A woman hanged herself to death, while her husband filmed her suicide, in Kanpur today.

After a brawl with her husband, Shobita Gupta, decided to take her life and failed in her first attempt. Rather than stopping his wife from committing suicide, her husband Sanjeev, started filming her attempt.

Sanjeev continued to film her next attempt to hang herself. When Shobita succeeded in her attempt, Sanjeev called up Shobita’s parents. On reaching their daughter’s house, they found her lying on the bed, with Sanjeev pumping her chest.

"When we reached home, our daughter`s body was lying on the bed. Sanjeev was pumping her instead of taking her to the hospital. We immediately picked her up and took her to the hospital where she was declared dead. Sanjeev gave us the video. He told us that she had tried to hang herself before too," Rajkishore, Shobita’s father told police.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Anup Singh said that the body has been sent for post-mortem and the incident is being investigated along with the video.

"The woman committed suicide after a dispute with her husband. As soon as the information was received, the police seized the body and sent it for post-mortem. We are questioning the husband," ACP said. He also added that no FIR has been filed as yet by the relatives of the deceased. "Action will be taken as soon as the complaint is received," he said.
