UP judge compares woman’s body to a temple, gives capital punishment to two rapists

Pratapagrah Additional District Sessions Judge of the POCSO Court Pankaj Kumar Srivastava said that a woman’s body is like a temple, while sentencing death penalty to two men for raping and brutalising a minor.

The judge of the court in Uttar Pradesh convicted, last week, Haleem alias Kharbar and Rizwan on charges of rape of a minor. The men had raped the child and dumped her near a railway track presuming that she was dead.

The judgement stated that the rape convicts also inflicted injuries to her head, deforming her face and resulting in the minor rape survivor losing her left eyesight for life. They also injured her arms, legs, and thighs, fracturing her right knee, the order noted.

“This act shows mental bankruptcy and the kind of thinking they have towards women and to what extent they can go,” the judge said in his order, adding that such cruelty is not meted out to animals too.

“A woman’s body is like a temple and a woman alone can decide who can enter in it, nobody has the right to force her,” the judge stated. Describing the case as ‘rarest of rare cases’, he conferred the death sentence on the two.
