Women Business Council to promote gender acceleration
An exclusive Women Business Council (WBC), to promote gender acceleration and to build an inclusive culture in business environments, has been launched on Saturday by the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).
It is a major step by MCCI in its 185-year history.
“WBC will set the benchmark for women’s success in corporate world. It will help corporates harness this enormous pool of talent and play the role as catalyst,” said Mallika Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director of Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited. Srinivasan is also the first woman to be president of MCCI.
She stressed the need to add value to the jobs done by women as well as the reskilling of women, to transform career prospects.
MCCI had earlier launched Women Director’s Forum. MCCI current president Srivats Ram, stated that the Women Business Council will replace the Women Director’s Forum. Ram pointed out that the World Economic Forum on Global Gender Gap, India ranked 149th among 153 countries in terms of economic participation.
