Yechury calls for people’s movement to save nation
Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] general secretary, Sitaram Yechury has called for a mass movement on the lines of India’s freedom struggle to save the country and its democracy.
Addressing a mahadharna in Hyderabad yesterday, Yechuri said that that patriotism demands that all those who love this country come together to save its Constitution and democracy.
He said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is destroying all the four pillars of democracy.
The mahadharna was organised jointly by Left Parties, the Congress, Telugu Desam Party, Telangana Jana Samthi and some other mass organisations, to protest against the ‘anti-farmer and anti-people policies’ of the BJP-led government at the Centre and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) government in Telangana.
Yechury said that the central government is targeting the leaders of opposition parties by misusing Central agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
He announced that the opposition parties have called for a Bharat Bandh on September 27 and nation-wide protests from September 20 to 30.
