Youth Congress activists defy water cannons, lathis: protest outside Parliament; 589 arrested
Youth Congress activists from various parts of the country today defied the use of water cannons and lathi charge by the Delhi police to disperse them in their Sansad Gherao, their march to the Parliament to protest against various issues.
The Youth Congress has given a call to gherao the parliament to protest against the three farm laws, rising prices of fuel, inflation, unemployment and to demand an impartial probe in the use of Pegasus spyware against media persons and political opponents of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Thousands of Youth Congress activists have participated in the protest. Former Indian National Congress President and Lok Sabha member Rahul Gandhi joined the protest and addressed the protestors.
Gandhi said that by using Pegasus software, the government was trying to silence the youth of the country.
The Delhi Police is said to have detained 589 persons Youth Congress activists, including 28 women, two Members of Parliament and two legislators. The police claimed that no permission was granted to Indian Youth Congress President B V Sriniwas to carry out the protest march.
