Beti Maaro, not Beti Bachao in BJP ruled Haryana
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been tom-toming about his Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign, yet the sex ration at birth (SRB) in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled Haryana, 12 districts show an SRB is less than the state average.
One of the reasons for this is said to be the prevalence of the banned Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT), which help determine the sex of the foetus, and the availability of medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) kits easily available across the counter in most districts of the state.
Government records show that there was an eight point drop in the SRB in 2021, as compared to the previous year. In 2020, the SRB for the state was 922, which dropped to 914 (the state average) in 2021.
However, in 12 of the 22 districts in the state, the SRB is below 914. Sonepat registered an SRB of 888, while in Jhajjar it was 895. The other districts with an SRB below average are include Fatehabad (899), Rewari and Faridabad (903 each), Bhiwani and Mahendragarh (904 each), Palwal (907), Gurugram and Ambala (908 each), Karnal (912) and Kaithal (913).
